MORENCI, Michigan (Indiana's NewsCenter) - Tanya Skelton, the mother the three missing Morenci, Michigan boys said yesterday in a news conference that she believes her children are alive.
She says the boys’ father, John Skelton, who is being held in Michigan on three counts of parental kidnapping, took the children away from her as a way of tormenting her and she doesn’t know why.
Tanya Skelton says her family is suffering, John Skelton’s family is suffering and the country as a whole is suffering as a result of this. She says the boys’ friends are suffering, wondering where Tanner, Alexander and Andrew are. Tanya Skelton says her children’s friends are forced to sleep in their parents’ beds out of fear that they could be taken.
Tanner, 5, Alexander, 7, and Andrew, 9, were last seen on Thanksgiving and have been missing now almost a month.
John Skelton has maintained that the boys are safe. There was even a report in Sandusky that the boys were seen in a doughnut shop just a few days after being taken from their mother Tanya Skelton.
Since they’ve been reported missing, hundreds of volunteers have searched land from Hillsdale County, Michigan to Williams County, Ohio. In the beginning volunteers participated in search and rescue missions. Very quickly they would become search and recovery missions, as the boys were feared dead.
Firefighters, police and dive teams from Indiana, Ohio, and Michigan have put in hundreds of man-hours in the search for these boys. They’ve used SCUBA gear, sonar devices, search dogs and even a helicopter all in the hope that one of more than 900 tips given to police would prove to find Tanner, Alexander and Andrew.
So far there has been no sign of where they might be, whom they might be with or even if they’re alive.
