FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - Over three rivers and through the woods, holiday traveling we go. This year experts are expecting more than 42,000,000 people across the country to travel more than 50 miles for the holidays.
That's an increase of around 11 percent from last year. But be warned, some of those extra cars out there belong to State Police.
Police say they'll be on the look out for people speeding, falling asleep at the wheel, and drinking and driving.
Police say over the last two Thanksgiving holidays there have been 17 people who lost their lives on Indiana highways. They say more than two/ thirds of those accidents involved alcohol.
And since winter weather may prove to be an issue this holiday, police say take your time and reduce distractions. Also plan out your route in advance and always let someone know your schedule.
