FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) -- Here at home, a military mom says bin Laden's death is validating the sacrifice of American servicemen and women.
Her emotions center around her children. Especially her son Brian stationed in Afghanistan.
Candy Oliver lives in Pleasant Lake, in Steuben county. Her son, Brian Oliver is a five year service member on active duty in Afghanistan.
Candy hasn't been able to talk to him yet about last night's breaking news but she's very proud of him.
Her daughter Robin is stationed in Oklahoma. She spoke to her early this morning. Robin was crying when she called home saying she was so proud of her brother Brian.
Candy says when she heard of bin Laden's death, she thought of all the 19, 20 and 21 year-olds giving their lives - for America.
“You know that's what this is all about,” says Candy. “These kids are over here, everyday. We're losing lives everyday to somebody like this. This is just one of many but this is the big start.”
This is Brian's second tour so she's at peace about his role in the war but when she thinks about bin Laden's death her thoughts focus on the people who lost loved ones on 9/11.
She hopes this brings them a sense of closure.
