FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - "It's a great time for us to realize that the greatest form of government is self-government," preached Former Arkansas Governor & 2008 Republican Presidential Candidate Mike Huckabee.
Huckabee was in Fort Wayne Wednesday night, as the keynote speaker, at the Allen County Republican Party Bean Dinner at Ceruti's.
The GOP Bean Dinner has been an annual tradition in Allen County for more than 50 years.
Huckabee finished second for the Republican Party's Presidential Nomination in 2008.
He is now a well known television talk show host, but what brought him to Northeast Indiana was Marlin Stutzman.
Huckabee is a big supporter of Stutzman.
He endorsed him during his failed U.S. Senate run against Dan Coats, now he is endorsing him for U.S. Congress.
Meanwhile, Huckabee said he has never seen anything like this before.
The new health care law, government bailouts and high unemployment.
However, the Huckabee said voters should be optimistic because the Republican Part is about to clean up Washington, D.C.
He said voters can do that by forcing a "tsunami of change" on November, 2.
"Sometimes you just want to say to the people in Washington, have you guys even run a lemonade stand or a snow cone machine because if you did, you would understand that if the government continually puts burdens of taxes and cost of regulations on a business, they're not going to hire anybody," said Huckabee.
"So government's gotta back off, let this economy breathe again, and people will start going to work and earning a paycheck," explained Huckabee.
"It's important for voters to hear the difference between candidates and we wanted to stick to our message, talk about getting our federal government under control, reduce spending, getting people back to work and that's what we continually want to talk about," said 3rd District Republican Congressional Candidate Marlin Stutzman.
Huckabee's message for all voters, including residents of Northeast Indiana: elect responsible people, who have experience running businesses, and that might help America back on track again.
