FORT WAYNE, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) -- A Fort Wayne man pleaded guilty to one Class C felony count of neglect of a dependent and one Class D felony count of criminal recklessness.
Arriaga Walker, 32, was charged with two Class C felonies of neglect of a dependent after he had been accused of neglecting his daughter on two different occasions. Walker's plea agreement allowed him to plead to a Class D felony of criminal recklessness for the second incident instead of the original Class C felony of neglect of a dependent.
The first incident happened in August of 2011, when hospital scans discovered that the 4-month-old girl had new and old bleeds on her brain. According to our partners in news, The Journal Gazette, Walker told investigators that she fell out of the bathtub but that he didn't hear her hit her head. Investigators wrote in court papers that the injury would have been caused by something immediately recognizable as dangerous.
Then in April, Walker called police because, according to him, he had unintentionally ran steaming hot water down the girls back when we was trying to bath her. When the baby cried he noticed that the water was steaming and he removed her from it then ran cold water and put her back in the tub. As he continued to wash her pieces of her skin pealed off.
He is set to be sentenced March 27.
