Man Crashes Into Bridge, Lands In Water (VIDEO)

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) - A man is dead after he crashed his car into a bridge and came to rest in the Maumee River.

Witnesses told police that the man was driving north on Coombs St. around 12:30 Saturday morning, when it looked like he lost control of the car and slammed into the bridge at the intersection of Herbert St.

Members of the Fort Wayne Fire Department Dive Team located an adult male, 23-year-old Irvin Gates, in the river. He was unresponsive. Gates was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators believe that there was only one person in the car at the time of the crash.

His death was rule an accident by the Allen County Coroner's Office.
