KENDALLVILLE, Ind. (21Alive) -- 25-year-old Jay King has been charged with a single count of child solicitation after investigators say he used his Facebook account to solicit a 15-year-old girl to engage in sexual conduct with him.
The charge filed on Tuesday alleges that the solicitation occurred between June 1, 2013 and August 8, 2013.
According to court documents, law enforcement officials reviewed cell phone record, as well as Facebook account information, during the course of the investigation. The initial complaint was made by a relative of the 15-year-old who was concerned for her.
Police say the 15-year-old girl was interviewed by investigators and that it is believed no physical harm was done to the girl.
“The allegations in this case are a stark reminder of how important it is for parents to monitor their children on the internet and specifically their use of social networking sites. Suspicious activity should be reported promptly to law enforcement, and not deleted until law enforcement has an opportunity to investigate. Our children need to be safe on the streets – and on the internet,” commented Prosecutor Steven T. Clouse.
King was also charged with Residential Entry, a class D felony in September of 2013 and with Possession of Methamphetamine and Possession of Paraphernalia in January.
A class C felony is punishable by two years in prison up to eight years in prison, and up to a $10,000 fine.
