Man Charged With Neglect Of 2-Year-Old With Skull Fracture

WARSAW, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) -- Kosciusko County officials have arrested a Warsaw man on two felony charges after allegedly injuring a 2-year-old child.

Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department detectives, along with officials from the Indiana Department of Child Services, were contacted by the emergency room at Kosciusko Community Hospital yesterday shortly at 12:21 p.m. regarding a 2-year-old that had been brought into their facility with multiple injuries.

Officers spoke with the mother of the child during the course of the investigation which eventually led them to the location of 1470 East, County Road 550 South, Warsaw. Officers met with Bradley V. Waikel, 24, who was currently dating the mother of the 2-year-old and had been residing there.

Deputies transported Waikel back to the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department where he was interviewed and subsequently charged with felony neglect of a dependent resulting/causing serious bodily injury as well as felony battery of a child under the age of 14 resulting/causing serious bodily injury.

Detectives stated that the 2-year-old boy was transferred from Kosciusko Community Hospital to Riley’s Children’s Hospital, Indianapolis, suffering from multiple bruises and a skull fracture. Detectives also noted that the child had obvious injuries to his head and groin area.

Waikel is currently being held in the Kosciusko County Jail on a $100,000 bond. The Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department and Indiana D.C.S. were also assisted in the investigation by the Kosciusko County Prosecutor’s Office.
