WASHINGTON (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - So what are some of the sticking points causing the possible government shutdown?

You would think the budget battle would be over numbers but politicians are putting social policies front and center.

Now the fight over a woman's right to choose could shut down the government.

The decades-old fight over Abortion is now the battle that could decide whether the U.S. Government shuts down at midnight.

The Republican Budget Package would eliminate the $317 million federal family planning program, known as Title X.

The majority of Americans do not support the expenditure of government funds for abortion. It would also bar sending any taxpayer money to Planned Parenthood.

There are those in the Republican Party in the House who are willing to shut down the government and take people's paychecks away from them, because they want to deny women access to health care in this country.

In the struggle over a nearly $4 trillion budget, the parties continue to squabble over the last $6.5 billion. That's just 0.17% of the budget, plus health care services for women.

That means no money for cervical screenings or breast exams.

Planned Parenthood provides medical care, contraception and abortions at more than 800 of its clinics. Still, Republicans frame the disagreement in financial, not ideological terms. They say the White House and its allies refuse to get serious about budget cuts.

There are a number of issues that are on the table, and any attempt to try to narrow this down to one or two just would not be accurate.
The money that House Republicans want to take away from organizations like Planned Parenthood would be given, instead, to state health departments to spend at their discretion.
