FORT WAYNE, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) – A local stalking case is getting some national attention.
Dawn Hillyer will be sharing her experience on the investigation the Discovery Channel show "Stalked...Someone's Watching."

This weekend camera crews from the show were in town filming Hillyer and her family. On Saturday she and the leading detective on the case, Lorrie Bandor, hosted a barbeque for family and friends.

Hillyer was stalked back in 2006, by an ex-boyfriend who called her hundreds of times a day, hacked her e-mail, and filed false police reports. She says the stalking affected not only her personal life, but her work life as well. Her ex-boyfriend was eventually arrested and is now in jail.

Since then, she’s been in touch with Governor Mike Pence about changing laws on stalking in the state of Indiana.

Hillyer says she's happy investigation discovery reached out to her because she's eager to share her story.

"I fought for so long to get my story heard and to be taken seriously and for help. And to see it come full circle and to see the interest and to raise the awareness to try to reform laws, it's just so much more to me now than what it was,” she said.

Hillyer says the case went on for so long because she had trouble getting the evidence she needed to have her stalker convicted. But, his day came in March of last year when he was finally convicted to ten years on two C-felonies.

Hillyer says her stalker will be out in four years, but she tries not to think about that. Instead, she says she’s enjoying her freedom.
