INDIANA (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - Republicans are collecting fines levied against the Democratic members of the House for the time away during their five week boycott.

The walkout by House Democrats in protest of education- and labor-related bills, left the House unable to conduct official business until they returned late last month.

Up to 20-percent is being deducted from the checks of those who participated in the walk-out.

Fines topped $3,000 for most of Democrats.

According to our partner in news, the Journal Gazette, Fort Wayne Representatvie Phil Giaquinta is fighting the fines.

But Speaker Bosma counters that all House members approved the ability to issue fines in the chambers rules.
