A local non-profit organization is reaching out to pet owners in the 46774 zip code as part of "Neuter Haven".
In an effort to end unnecessary euthanasia of healthy adoptable pets, "Hope for Animals" neutered 45 male cats today, free of charge.
"Hope for Animals" is dedicated to helping pet owners with financial struggles, so along with the surgery pets also received a rabies vaccine and a microchip.
Community Cat Coordinator, Jessica Rutledge, says the microchip is important because they see many spayed and neutered cats make it in to the shelter, but they're not being reunited back at home. So with the microchip, owners can be contacted in time to save their pets' lives.
"Hope for Animals" has a goal of neutering 100% of male cats in the new haven area.
