FORT WAYNE, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) - Who doesn't dream about becoming rich and famous from time to time? But according to a recent Pew Research study, that's the top priority for many young adults.

The study says 81% of 18 to 25-year-olds list being rich as their most important or second most important goal in life. The study also says 51% of those surveyed said the same thing about being famous.

Generation Y, as the age group is sometimes called, is constantly being exposed to the glitz and glamor of being a celebrity. The popularity of youtube and other social media sites have only added to the belief that anyone can become a star overnight.

At Ivy Tech in Fort Wayne, however, students and staff appear to be more focused on how to reach financial goals through a good education and rewarding career.

Jessica Smead is a first year medical assisting major. She says, "All my friends want to be rich and famous, but I know in reality you're not going to be rich and famous. So, you've kind of got to do what you got to do."

Ivy Tech Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs Chris Cathcart says, "We offer things like workshops for financial planning. We do things like career coaching. We help people so they ask that next question, like, 'What is it that I want to do? What is going to help me get to that level so that I'm not spending all my time wishing to win the lottery?.'"

Cathcart says Ivy Tech is also committed to offering students an affordable education, so they don't spend years trying to pay back massive student loans.
