Leesburg Trucker Charged In Chicago Area Crash

ELWOOD, Ill. (21Alive) - A Northeast Indiana truck driver was charged Tuesday in a fatal crash that killed four people near Chicago on Monday afternoon.

Authorities say Francisco Espinal-Quiroz, 51, of Leesburg, was speeding through a construction zone along Interstate 55 in the suburb of Elwood, Ill., when he caused a chain reaction crash that killed four people.

Espinal-Quiroz appeared in court by closed-circuit television on Wednesday, and was formally charged with two felony counts: a log book violation and failure to reduce speeds. His bond was set at $1 million.

Kimberly Britton, 43, of Urbana, Ill.; Piper Britton, 11, of Urbana, Ill., Vicky Palacios, 54, of Coal City, Ill.; and Ulrike Blopleh, 48, of Channahon, Ill. were killed in the crash.

Several other people were injured.
