FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) - The Regional Festivus Games Competition was held Saturday at CrossFit Praus . The competition brought together athletes from Indiana, Ohio, Illinois and Michigan.
Not familiar with the workout? It's a strength and conditioning program that aims to improve muscular strength, cardiovascular endurance and flexibility.
Today was the Festivus Games where elite athletes bow out to let the beginner and intermediate athletes get a taste for what the competition really is.
"The weights are lighter, the movements are little bit simpler, things are a little less technical. But it's a great opportunity for people who are just getting started with crossfit or maybe just have different goals,"owner Amanda Burge says.
Today's competition had the athletes competing four different WODS, or work outs of the day. They did different exercises to work different parts of the body.
But the workouts don't only push your body to the max, they push you mentally as well.
"There are so many workouts that push you, and CrossFit is developed to push you - push you mentally and physically . And the biggest thing is mentally. You push yourself to those physical limitations that you had no idea you could pass," says crossfitter Melissa McFadden.
Four people were declared champions: one beginner male and female, and one intermediate male and female.
The Festivus games took place all over the country today. Local athletes could see how they stacked up against the national competition.
