Indianapolis Passes On Chance To Bid On Democratic National Convention

April 23, 2014 Updated Apr 23, 2014 at 3:59 PM EDT

Indianapolis, Ind (NBC33) -- Indianapolis has passed on the chance to host a national political convention, according to WTHR.

City officials have decline to bid the Democratic National Convention's invitation to bid on hosting the 2016 event. The city spokesman said that Indianapolis is hosting too many other events including the NCAA Men's Final Four and Women's Olympic Trials.

The move has drawn criticism by Democrats in Indianapolis who believe the decision is politically motivated by Republican Mayor Greg Ballard.
