INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (21Alive) -- According to a report by an ABC affiliate in Indianapolis, RTV-6, Indiana's Medical Licensing Board may delay conducting annual toxicology test on some patients for one year.

The proposed new rule would be a part of a larger effort to reduce prescription drug abuse. According to the report, the test results will show whether patients are taking their medications or possible illegally selling them.

Board members considered making the drug-testing rule a recommendation for one year before it would become mandatory in 2015 to allow physicians the extra time to adjust to the new rule.
