FORT WAYNE, Ind. (www.nbc33.com) – Classes don’t officially begin until Monday, but that didn’t stop 850 students from moving into their new apartments today at IPFW.
Students and their parents from around the country arrived on campus loaded up with all their personal belongings like dishes and clothing. One thing you won’t see, however, is furniture.
That’s because IPFW features 13 apartment complexes that come fully furnished with desks, couches, and all the major appliances. It is one thing the university takes pride in that really sets it apart from other colleges its size.
"Most people are amazed at the quality of the facility on a college campus that we have,” says Sara Garcia, Director of Student Housing. “We had one student who checked in earlier and we got a great post on facebook of how clean the facility was, they just couldn't believe it - and how homey everything here was."
Garcia also points out a number of activities planned throughout the weekend to keep students occupied until the start of the fall semester.
"When the students move in they are each getting a free T-shirt that's white. We'll all be tie-dying them in their community color. Tomorrow there will be "Freshman Fest," followed by a slip-n-slide, a giant slip-n-slide over here at Student Housing and an After Glow event."
Housing at Cole Commons houses both IPFW and Ivy Tech students. A number of Ivy Tech students have already moved into their living units.
