INDIANAPOLIS, Ind (21Alive) -- An investigation is underway after an IMPD Officer fired shots at a car that hit him and fled from his house early this morning.

Investigators are reporting that the officer was home alone with his wife when he saw two suspects outside of his home. The officer has stated that he believed they were trying to break into his home.

The two suspects were in a running car outside of the home when the officer approached the vehicle identifying himself as a police officer. The car then went into reverse, striking the officer, and drove away. The officer then fired shots at the fleeing car.

The two suspects later called police indicating they were involved in the incident. A parent of one of the suspects said that their 17 year-old daughter was out with her boyfriend looking for a New Year's Eve party but got the wrong house.

The suspects are saying they quickly took off because a man with a gun was approaching the car and that they did not know he was a police officer.

Police have arrested the boyfriend, 19 year-old Luke Woodworth, on criminal recklessness and possession of alcohol by a minor charges.
