FORT WAYNE, Ind. (www.nbc33.com) – If you are planning to head out to the golf course for this week’s PGA Tour event at Sycamore Hills, it's important to remember to stay hydrated. With the hot and humid temperatures we have on tap the next few days, spectators need to be sure to prepare for the heat.

That includes not only drinking water at the event, but drinking enough beforehand to ensure proper hydration. Spectators and participants alike should also use common sense when outdoors.

"It’s important, not only drinking water but staying out of the sun,” points out Dr. Tom Gutwein, Emergency Department Medical Director at Parkview Hospital. “There’s plenty of shade around here out here at Sycamore (Hills Golf Club), it'd be nice to stay under the shade trees as much as possible. Use your sunscreen, use your ball caps, things like that so that you do try to stay cool."

Dr. Gutwein also recommended drinking primarily water and sports drink, and staying away from drinks like coffee, alcohol, or drinks that are high in sugar. as these can actually dehydrate you.
