FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) – A local program is coming to the aid of a wounded Fort Wayne veteran.
The Homes for Wounded Warriors held a home construction fundraiser at the American Legion Post 241 on Bluffton Road in Fort Wayne Saturday, to provide a mortgage-free home to specialist Matthew Moeller. Specialist Moeller is completely disabled and unable to work.
The program will look to provide a specialized home based on Moeller’s family size and disability. That’s the one and only goal the program organizers hope to accomplish.
“We have one mission and that is to build and provide specially adapted mortgage-free homes. Now the ticket there is mortgage-free, once these homes are provided the veteran doesn't have any expense to us or no mortgage payment, just his taxes and insurance,” said Capt. Markus Trouerbach, President of Homes for Wounded Warriors.
The durable and built-to-last homes run around $67,000, but the program needs all the help they can get—through money or labor.
