FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) – A 21-year-old man is dead after a shooting Friday afternoon at the Baldwin Creek Apartment Complex on Hobson Road.
Fort Wayne Police were called to the area around 2 p.m.
According to the Allen County Coroner’s Office Johnny Lee Upshaw died from a gunshot wound.
Police say Upshaw was shot either in the hallway of one of the apartment buildings or inside a unit. Police say he was able to climb out of a window and drop to the ground before paramedics arrived.
He was taken to the hospital but was pronounced dead once he arrived.
Detectives believe there was some sort of argument inside the building before shots were fired.
Several people were taken in for questioning. Police also took one man into custody for an unrelated offense.
A second shooting victim walked into the Parkview Randallia ER. He told police that he was shot as a part of this incident, and was possibly a bystander.
Witnesses told detectives they saw several men speed off in a black Dodge Charger, but the descriptions of the men in the car varied.
A black Charger was found on Leroy Ave. near State Blvd. just across from Parkview's ER, but it's not clear whether that's the car involved in the shooting.
Fort Wayne Community Schools says students living on Hobson, between Lake and State, were escorted to their homes.
