FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - A Northeast Indiana Tea Party Rally is brewing up controversy in local politics.
Indiana's NewsCenter caught up with 3rd District Democratic Congressional Candidate, Tom Hayhurst, and his opponent, 3rd District Republican Congressional Candidate Marlin Stutzman at the Changemakers Legislative Night, which was held at the Speedway Bingo Hall in Fort Wayne on Thursday Night.
Nearly a dozen candidates gathered to talk about the issues that are important to people with disabilities, like jobs and state policies.
However, Hayhurst is preparing for a news conference Friday morning to question Glenn Beck's speech and Marlin Stutzman's participation in the event.
Meanwhile, with the Tea Party gaining momentum against the GOP, we asked Stutzman if he was nominated by the tea party, would he consider joining?
"No I'm a Republican and you know the Tea Party is really a movement. It's not a party per se. It is about getting our government under control and stop spending, and stop borrowing money from China and spending money we don't have," said 3rd District Republican Congressional Candidate Indiana State Senator Marlin Stutzman.
"I don't have an issue with my opponent being involved. I have an issue with contrast between his talking about small government and actually there was a major tax hike in the state of Indiana that he supported," said 3rd District Democratic Congressional Candidate Tom Hayhurst.
Glenn Beck's rally is scheduled for Saturday, September 18 at Hersey Hall on the campus of Trine University.
A tea party group from Elkhart and Southern Michigan is sponsoring the event.
Doors will open at 8 a.m. and Marlin Stutzman is scheduled to speak.
