DeKalb County, IN/Howell, MI (Indiana's NewsCenter) – Visitation and funeral information is now available for Barbara, Bessie, Margaret and Elizabeth Pierson…the mother and three daughters killed in the crash involving a train on Sunday in DeKalb County.
Visitation is Thursday, January 13th from 12:00pm to 8:00pm at the Hamburg Chapel in Hamburg, Michigan. The funeral is Friday, January 14th at 11:00am at the Fowlerville United Brethren in Christ Church in Fowlerville, Michigan. Burial will be at Pinckney Cemetery.
Contributions are being accepted to help the family pay for all of the final expenses at any Citizens Bank.
The DeKalb County Sheriff says 45-year-old Barbara Pierson, 19-year-old Bessie Pierson, 19-year-old Margaret Pierson and 14-year-old Elizabeth Pierson were all killed Sunday, January 9th, 2011. 8-month-old William Pierson, Margaret’s son, survived the crash with a broken leg and some cuts and bruises. The 19-year-old twins and the 14-year-old are all Barbara's daughters.
Officials say the SUV the family was in veered of the highway and onto the median, and then rolled down a bridge embankment and onto railroad tracks shortly after 5:00pm Sunday. At that time, a train coming down the track tried to stop, but was unable. The SUV, which was on its top, was hit and pushed some 2,000 feet.
One of the women was thrown from the SUV. The other three women died at the scene.
