FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - The Legacy Task Force has concluded it's work in determining where $75 million in Light Lease Settlement funds should be invested.

On Wednesday, the 15 member Legacy Task Force unveiled their recommendations. The task force spent months combing over and ranking more than 900 project proposals submitted by the community before coming up with a set of four recommendations they feel with best benefit the city in years to come.

1. Core Economic Investments
*Business Attraction/Retention and Job Creation, Strategic Infrastructure Investments

2. Downtown and Riverfront Development
*Catalytic Downtown Development Incentives, Riverfront Development, Arts and Culture

3. Youth/Prep Sports Initiative
*World-class Youth/Prep Sports, Youth/Prep Sports Facility Development, Community Access

4. Investment of Trust Fund and Light Lease Settlement Dollars
*Continuation, modification, or replacement of Fort Wayne Community Trust to ensure protection and strategic investment of Legacy funds

The waiting game continues, however, as it could be quite some time before Summit City residents get a definitive answer on where the money is specifically going.

Mayor Tom Henry will now appoint three Legacy Champion Teams comprised of community leaders and subject matter experts. Over the next several months, they will further refine the Task Force recommendations.

As many will recall, initial plans called for specific action plans to be laid out by the Task Force months ago, not new Champion Teams months down the road. However, Mayor Henry says, "They realized that many of these would take additional study - many would require feasibility studies to be put into place. For them to accept the responsibility of making specific recommendations without having true feasibility studies in place, would probably have been inappropriate."

Legacy Champion Team members are expected to be announced in January.
