FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) -- Killed execution-style.
That's how Fort Wayne's public safety director described the deadly shootings of three young men on Wednesday, in a neighborhood just east of downtown.
The property at 808 East Lewis Street had been watched by members of Fort Wayne PD's Gang and Violent Crimes unit in the weeks prior to the killings.
Safety Director Rusty York says the place belongs to folks who now live in Indianapolis, and the absentee ownership situation seems to have permitted the place to become a party house for teens and young adults from families of African descent, particularly from the nations of Chad and Sudan.
Wednesday afternoon, it hosted an awful episode of violence.
Autopsy results released Friday show 23-year old Mohamedtaha Omar, 20-year old Adam Mekki and 17-year old Muhannad Tairab each died in the house of multiple gunshot wounds.
York says some people hanging out at the residence left briefly Wednesday, and when they returned in less than an hour, they found the victims and called for help.
York said right now detectives don't have any suspects.
" Hopefully, you know, we'll be able to focus in on exactly what the reason was, but as I said before, no reason to believe this was any type of hate crime, or focused because of their religion or their nationality whatsoever," he said.
That may be true, but because these young people were close to others with family ties to Chad and Sudan, police are keeping in mind the killer or killers could have a similar background.
York says FBI and ATF agents are also working the case.
Police are asking anyone with knowledge of what might have happened at the Lewis Street residence between about 4:30 and 5:30 Wednesday afternoon, to contact the department to try and help solve a frightening crime.
