FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - A man is now facing charges months after a 4-year-old was seriously hurt during an argument.

Police say the young girl was hurt when a man threw a wrench at her. Police were called to a home in the 1000 block of West Dupont Road in Fort Wayne on February 13.

This week 34-year-old Jeremiah Jones was charged with 2 felonies for battery and criminal recklessness.

Police say he was in an argument with his father when he threw the wrench. Jones says he was throwing it at his father but missed and hit the 4-year-old girl.

Jeremiah Jones' father is the 4-year-old's grandfather. Both he and the young girl's mother took her to the hospital.

Court documents explain the toddler had to undergo surgery and be put into an induced coma for a week. She also had a skull fracture and was placed on a ventilator after one of her lungs collapsed. Those documents also say she is now missing an egg size portion of her brain.

Jones was arrested and is being held at the Allen County jail.
