FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) – A celebration took place to honor one of its own.

Mary Morris of Fort Wayne was honored this past winter with a City proclamation for over 30 years of work for the Oxford Neighborhood Association, Fort Wayne Housing Authority and numerous community advocacy efforts.

Now that the weather has improved, the community had the opportunity to celebrate her achievements.

Morris has helped hundreds of residents save their homes from foreclosure and helped those in need create better lives for themselves through affordable housing.

Despite the accolades, Morris says she was just doing her job.

“I thank God I was able to do that. I did a lot of work, but I didn't know the impact. I did my job daily, but it wasn't hard to do. I never imagined the impact that I had on the people in the community. My work, I took my work seriously and did it to the best of my abilities,” said Morris.
