FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - Fort Wayne residents will soon begin receiving pre-paid post cards they can return to reserve their new and improved recycling bins.

Mayor Tom Henry joined Whispering Meadow Elementary students Monday demonstrating that under the new program, all recyclable materials can be thrown into one large bin.

The mayor says only 34 percent of residents recycle right now. But more participation could mean more savings.

Mayor Henry says, “Fort Wayne will receive 50% of the profits generated by the sale of recyclable material, and as recycling participation increases, we will reduce the amount of fees we pay per tonnage in our landfill."

In addition to returning the post cards being sent out this month, residents can also reserve a bin by calling 311 or visiting our web site for a direct link to the city’s page.
