FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - Bed bugs may still be crawling into beds across northeast Indiana but the Fort Wayne Apartment Association hopes to be prepared in-case of outbreak.

The creepy critters have only infested isolated areas of Fort Wayne, but the Fort Wayne Apartment Association held a conference Tuesday morning on how to handle an outbreak, if one happens.

The group's executive director knows a large invasion of the bugs could affect Fort Wayne the same way it impacted many other areas of the county.

Executive Director of Apartment Association Beth Wyatt says, “Everyone who has had an issue has been on it, right away. They have dealt with it and been very proactive. So I'm hoping that providing that education and having that atmosphere of dealing with it head on is going to stop the problem hopefully before it gets bad in Fort Wayne.”

Wyatt believes teaching preventive measures will help keep bed bugs from biting people around northeast Indiana.
