INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) – A woman who stabbed and killed a 78-year-old Bible school teacher in Gary, Ind. in 1985 has been released from prison Monday.
Paula Cooper, 43, was sent to a state prison in Rockville, Ind. at the age of 15. Initially, she was given the death sentence.
Cooper’s sentencing sparked protests throughout the country. Since then, the U.S. Supreme Court has made juvenile executions unconstitutional.
In 1988, the Indiana Supreme Court replaced her death sentence with a 60-year sentence.
