FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - A former Blackhawk Middle School teacher learned his fate after pleading guilty to sexual misconduct with a minor.

Justin Edwards was sentenced Monday to 12-years for having an ongoing relationship involving sex with a 14-year old student. Edwards was charged with 6-years executed, 6-suspended and four years probation.

That means he could be released on parole in three years with good behavior. Edwards will now have to register as a sex offender.

After the sentencing Edwards said, “I just love all my family and friends and thank everybody for their support. I'm sorry for anybody who was affected negatively by this. And like I said, the people who are saying the bad stuff about my wife need to take some serious God medicine."

Edwards voiced a similar apology in front of his victim in court saying, he had dedicated his life to family and community service and was sorry to everyone who this had hurt.

The victim and her mother were in the courtroom at the time of the sentencing. The victim was going to speak but changed her mind.
