FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) -- The national spotlight will soon be on Fort Wayne as Sycamore Hills prepares to host its first PGA Tour event.
The 18th hole at Sycamore Hills is being transformed as Fort Wayne prepares to host its first official PGA Tour Event later this year. This grand stand will be a popular spot for spectators at the Hotel Fitness Championship but this isn't the only big project going on at the course.
There are several other hospitality tents going up and other public bleachers for the spectators throughout the course.
The Hotel Fitness Championship is an event that will help 50 players qualify for PGA Tour cards. Those invited include the top players from the Web.com Tour and those PGA Tour players who didn't quite make the cut in the top 125. Plans for this have been underway for a year but now is when most of the construction is beginning on the golf course.
"I don't think the majority of people have any idea,” said Duke Butler, Tournament Dir., Hotel Fitness Championship. “I think they believe we come into town for 2 weeks a year, this event happens, and then everybody leaves but we have a full time tournament staff that's dedicated to this event. I moved from Florida to Fort Wayne specifically for it."
The Hotel Fitness Championship is being held the last week of August at Sycamore Hills Golf Club in Fort Wayne. It's an exciting time for Fort Wayne, hosting its first PGA event but for these players, their all fighting for that chance to play on the PGA Tour, playing against some of the best golfers in the world.
