FORT WAYNE, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) – The superintendent of Fort Wayne Community Schools district turned down a raise in her base salary, but accepted a $9,000 incentive payment.

Dr. Wendy Robinson was eligible for a raise in her base salary as well as an incentive payment for completion of district goals.

At a school board meeting Monday night, the School Board approved Dr. Robinson receive $9,450 out of a possible $10,800 in incentives, claiming she met most, but not all of the district's goals based on the Superintendent’s evaluation.

However, Dr. Robinson waived the $5,400 maximum increase in base pay for the 2012-13 school year saying it would've been a poor reflection of her leadership.

“When we're only able to have a .25 percent, stipend at that, to employee groups, I just didn't think the timing was right for that to be a part of my compensation,” said Dr. Robinson.

Dr. Robinson explained that there will be changes made to teacher evaluations where increased salaries will be based on their evaluations. However, she says that process has not been finished, and she thought it would be “disingenuous” to accept a raise.

“It’s just keeping in spirit of the whole process. The Board expects for me to model what we expect our employees to do. Since that’s a part of their compensation, which we at this time can’t determine, I didn’t think that it made sense for me.”

Dr. Robinson is superintendent of the largest district in the state by enrollment, but Board Members say she's not the highest paid superintendent.
