FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) -- Since Monday’s Massacre at the Navy Yard, Fort Wayne’s 122nd Fighter Wing remains on alert.
The base trains every year for this scenario. This year’s drill will be conducted within the next few weeks.
Like many military installations, most people at the 122nd Fighter Wing do not carry weapons every day.
Darin Hubble a Master Sergeant at the 122nd Fight Wing said, he was surprised a contractor would have been able to get at least two weapons past security, even if he did have security clearance.
“Somehow he got past the security measure in that installation, it’s not as if he’s assigned those weapons by that installation,” Hubble said. “I mean, I can’t show up to work everyday with a gun in my trunk. It’s not allowed, for those obvious reasons.”
Security measures have not been heightened at the base in the wake of Monday’s Navy Yard Massacre.
