INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) --- Rep. Espich Named Chairman of Ways and Means

Speaker Brian Bosma (R-Indianapolis) appointed Rep. Jeff Espich (R-Uniondale) today as Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee for the 117th Indiana General Assembly. Rep. Espich has served as the Ranking Minority Member on the House committee since 2007.

“It’s a true honor to be selected to serve as the Chairman of Ways and Means and I appreciate Speaker Bosma and our leadership for my appointment,” said Rep. Espich. “These are unprecedented times in Indiana. We have Hoosiers who can barely put food on the table. And since they are tightening their belts on spending, I don’t see why the state should be any different. Indiana is broke—that is the reality.

Rep. Espich served as Chairman of Ways and Means during the 114th General Assembly, where he authored and passed Indiana’s first balanced budget in over a decade.

“Government at all levels needs to be more efficient with the people’s money,” said Rep. Espich. “Citizens aren’t interested in more taxes – they showed that in the last election. Times are tough and it’s imperative for the state to live within its income, and not raise taxes.”

In addition to his leadership on the Ways and Means Committee, Rep. Espich has also served as Chairman of the State Budget Committee, which is responsible for the oversight of state appropriations and developing budget recommendations to submit to the governor.
