FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) -Graduation is a time to look to the future, but for one group of Fort Wayne seniors, memories of the past make this year's graduation bittersweet. There will be no Elmhurst High School graduates this year, but former students will still be carrying a piece of Elmhurst with them during this weekend's graduation.
A year after the school's doors permanently closed, students are scattered around the Fort Wayne Community School system. Some will graduate this Friday at Memorial Coliseum - others on Saturday.
Sam Zook, a former Trojan now graduating from North Side High School, worked with FWCS administrators, the individual high schools, and a council of students to get red-and-white tassels for the former Elmhurst students. A special seal Zook designed will also be on each diploma.
Former Elmhurst graduates are invited to take a class picture on Sunday, June 19th at 1:30pm on the front steps of Elmhurst. After the picture, students will be able to sign a marble slab that will later be sealed and put on display.
