UTAH (Indiana's NewsCenter) - More than eight years after Elizabeth Smart disappeared from her bedroom on a summer night, the man authorities believe masterminded her kidnapping is set to go on trial Monday in federal court.

57-year-old Brian David Mitchell is accused of snatching then-14-year-old Smart at knifepoint from her family's Salt Lake City home on June 5, 2002.

Mitchell faces federal charges of kidnapping and transporting a minor across state lines for improper purposes.

The now 22-year-old Smart is expected to take the stand, once a jury is selected and testimony in the trial begins.
