ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (21Alive) -- An elementary school student has been charged with battery after a violent episode with a teacher.

A teacher of students with behavioral issues told police that the student has been at Heritage Elementary for two months and his aggressive behavior has been escalating. She told police he became angry when he was told he had to move to a more "punitive step in the disciplinary process" due to being disrespectful in class. She said he began charging other students and teachers, trying to punch and shove them.

The student grabbed another teacher and "violently shoved her into the water basin", according to police. Several teachers were required to physically restrain him and keep him from hurting anyone else. One teacher told police it was the most violent episode she has witnessed in the several years she has been teaching students with behavioral issues.

The injured teacher was complaining of severe pain in the rib area and difficulty breathing and transported to an area hospital.

The student was taken to the Allen County Juvenile Justice Center and charged with battery.
