FORT WAYNE, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) - A Fort Wayne man was sentenced to eight years in prison Friday for felony counts of neglect of a dependent and criminal recklessness.

According to the Journal Gazette, Arriaga Walker, 33, was accused of causing his 4-month-old daughter bleeding on her brain and scalding burns to her body. "I love my daughter with all my heart," Walker told Judge Fran Gull before she sentenced him. "She's the most important thing in the world to me. I know how it is not to have a father."

The judge found these statements to be less intriguing due to the amount of neglect and abuse acted upon the young girl. Judge Gull sentenced Walker to eight years in prison, the maximum amount of time called for in a plea agreement he made with Allen County prosecutors.

According to sources, in August 2011, Walker's girlfriend, Ashley Mendez, came home to the couple's 4-month-old daughter crying.

The Allen Superior Court documents state that the couple took the girl to a hospital, where they revealed bleeding on the child's brain. Walker proceeded to tell investigators the girl had fallen out of a baby tub during her bath, but that he did not hear her hit her head according to those documents.

A second event occurred when Walker called the police himself saying that his daughter had been burned while in the tub for a bath. To this day, the child, 2, still has some discoloration where she was burned, according to court testimony.
