INDIANA (Indiana's NewsCenter) - The controversial school voucher bill has cleared its first legislative hurdle.

The House Education Committee voted 8- 5 in favor of the bill that would use taxpayer money to help Hoosier parents send their children to private schools.

Under the proposal, families of four making up to $81,000 a year are eligible to receive voucher money to attend a private school.
