NEW HAVEN, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - "Is 74% percent great? No. We can do better," said East Allen County Schools Executive Director of School Management Chris Hissong.
Hissong was referring to the district's 74.2% Performance Pass Rate, which was up 2.9% over the previous year.
The district received a "C" for their Adequate Yearly Progress or AYP grade.
Normally, a 2.9% improvement would receive a "B" grade, which equals "commendable progress."
However, EACS was only eligible for a "C" grade because school district that fail to achieve AYP two years in a row, are capped on the grade they can receive.
EACS officials said the state has "indicated the AYP cap will be removed from future category determinations as early as next year."
"We need to continue doing better. We want to try to at least have 3% improvement next year, if not more. But it takes hard work by everyone involved in the process to make that happen," continued Hissong.
Hissong shared that the district's ultimate goal is to have a 90% Performance Pass Rate on the ISTEP test in the near future.
Four individual EACS schools received an "A".
Cedarville Elementary, Leo Elementary, Woodburn Elementary and Heritage High School.
An "A" grade is defined by a 3% improve in a district's or school's performance pass rate.
Meanwhile, East Allen County Schools has hired several architecture firms that want your opinion on how to implement the EACS Redesign plan when it comes to millions of dollars in building additions and renovations.
Only a few people have showed up to previously scheduled meetings to offer input.
Four additional meetings will be held before mid-September.
