ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - 27 teachers within the East Allen County Schools district will find out Friday or Saturday if they’ll be let go. Superintendent Karyle Green says the layoffs are not relating to redesign plans, but rather changes in the day to day classroom schedules.
Green says Secondary schools will be switching from a trimester schedule to a traditional semester schedule and this schedule requires fewer teachers.
22 of the 27 layoffs are related to these changes, where as the other five related to Title I funding.
Green hopes once the Title I budget is approved, those five elementary teachers will be brought back. But according to state law, notice must be given by June 1st, so those five teachers have been notified in case the funding doesn't come through as planned.
