FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - We've reported a major new I-69 interchange will be built at Union Chapel Road near Parkview North hospital. A portion of the project that will be paid for exclusively by Allen County Government may prove to be a bargain for county taxpayers.

The county is upgrading Diebold Road between Union Chapel and Dupont Roads.

Engineer estimates put the cost of the work at $5.8 million.

The low bid, however, came in at just over $3 million.

The County Commissioners could award the contract on Friday.

The project is slated to be done in 2012.
