INDIANAPOLIS (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - The Republican-led State House voted Tuesday morning to begin fining absent Democrats $1,000 a-day, after they failed to show up for work.
The full House was supposed to debate the "Right-to-Work" bill and vote on proposed amendments Tuesday.
But Democrats walked out after state lawyers said their key proposal, to put the issue up for a public vote in November, was unconstitutional.
Democrats did not show up again Wednesday, saying they need time to fix that referendum amendment.
They also accuse Republicans of playing tricks.
The "Right-to-Work" bill would ban mandatory union dues as a condition of employment.
