UNDATED (21Alive) – The sign-up deadline, which is Monday, is looming for the Affordable Care Act.
More than 6 million Americans have now signed up for private insurance under the president's signature health care law.
That’s fewer than the administration's original goal of 7 million, but it reflects a surge in recent weeks, as technical glitches in the healthcare.gov website have been resolved.
Thousands of "health care navigators" and volunteers have staffed crowded enrollment events, as the sign-up period for 2014 coverage goes down to the wire.
The deadline of March 31 will be extended to mid-April for people who have already tried to sign up for coverage but were unable to complete the task.
