UNITED STATES (21Alive) – With Halloween right around the corner, many parents are headed to costume stores or shopping online with their tween-age daughters and what they can expect to find is shorter skirts, fish nets and add-ons such as “boyshorts”.
The shift to have costumes for young girls that resemble the same “sexy” costumes sold for adults is making some parents hate Halloween. According to an NBC affiliate, KING5, some costume shops refuse to sell the “sexier” costumes for kids and parents seem to appreciate the policy.
But with online retailers showing young females what their choices could be, it becomes more of a battle to find a costume that doesn’t show quite a bit of skin.
SpiritHalloween.com sells a “Mad Hatter Teen Costume” that is remarkably similar to an adult size of the costume that sells under the name “Mad Hatter Sexy Costume” at online retailers. The online retailer selling the teen costume even suggests “black junior boyshorts” to “complete the look”.
There is also a “Kandy Korn Witch Tween Costume” which is referred to as a “darling lace-up dirndl dress” and resembles an “Adult Sexy Kandy Korn Witch Dress Costume” sold elsewhere online. And then for the pirate fans, there is a “Pretty Pirate Captain Girls Costume” that looks like just about any “sexy pirate costume” available online for adults.
