NEW HAVEN, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - Tax breaks have been approved in case a copper refining operation gets situated on a piece of land in New Haven.
The property near the Casad Depot could host an 85,000 square foot plant to produce copper wire rods.
Steel Dynamics and La Farga say the factory would create 35 new jobs.
The Allen County Council granted a 1.7 million dollar tax abatement for the project on Thursday.
Allen County Council President (R) Darren Vogt says, “In Europe, La Farga is doing a great job, and they have many different plants. Well, we can do the same thing here and bring this new technology to the United States. It might be a huge growth opportunity for us, so that's what we've got to look at."
The joint venture is considering other sites for the business.
The county's land bank program helped make this property available.
