FORT WAYNE, Ind. (www.nbc33.com) – There is a big weekend on tap for running fans as the “Color Me Rad” 5K race bursts into Fort Wayne on Saturday.

The race is a little different in that it focuses less on finishing times and beating personal best times and more on having fun and getting a little dirty.

Saturday's event marks the first time "Color Me Rad" has come to Fort Wayne and features a course that begins in the Coliseum parking lot, jogs through Johnny Appleseed Park, around Spy Run Avenue and then heads back, ending at the Coliseum. At each kilometer mark volunteers douse runners in a colorful combination of paint and corn starch.

The event has been incredibly popular and is almost sold out with over 8,000 participants for tomorrow's race.

"Typically in a race like Chicago or Atlanta… this is a typical number – 8000,” says Color Me Rad’s Event Director Will Strauss. “For Fort Wayne this is actually a per capita better race than a lot of our other areas. So Fort Wayne really responded well to us coming here, and we hopefully deliver a good enough product that they want us back."

If you have not already purchased your pass to the race, you can get one at the front gate on Saturday. The cost is $50.

Organizers are asking racers to carpool if possible due to the limited parking available.
