City Utilities Winter Storm Update: No Garbage/Recycling Collection

January 6, 2014 Updated Jan 6, 2014 at 12:23 PM EST

FORT WAYNE, Ind (21Alive) -- Because of heavy snow and projected extreme cold temperatures, there will be no Monday or Tuesday collection of garbage and recycling.

Those residents who are normally connected on Tuesday thru Friday will have garbage and recycling run a day behind.

· Normal Tuesday customers will have collection on Wednesday January 8, 2014
· Normal Wednesday customers will have collection on Thursday January 9, 2014
· Normal Thursday customers will have collection on Friday January 10, 2014
· Normal Friday customers will have collection on Saturday January 11, 2014

At this time, City Utilities is monitoring the storm to determine the adjusted schedule for the remainder of the week.

City trucks continue plowing and salting to battle the latest winter storm. Crews will stay on the main arterial streets as long as it keeps snowing.

Residents are encouraged to clear snow away from fire hydrants to keep them visible and not allow them to get buried by piles of snow.

A water main break has closed Calhoun Street between Petit Avenue and Maple Grove. City Utilities crews are working on the break and water service has been interrupted in the area.
